Over the past decade, obesity surgery has been continuously refined to improve results and reduce risks. Weight loss surgery, also called obesity surgery or bariatric surgery, can be a very effective way of losing weight. These terms are used in order to reflect the impact of these operations on patients’ weight and the health of their metabolism (breakdown of food into energy). Obesity surgery can help achieving significant weight loss and resolve obesity-related health problems, such as type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea or hypertension. There are various surgical options based on restricting the amount of food you can consume, or reducing the ability to absorb nutrients, or a mixed-method of both. Sleeve Gastrectomy (Gastric Sleeve)

The Gastric Sleeve is an ideal procedure for people who want a long-term surgical option but prefer not to have an implanted device. This is an exciting weight loss option combines many of the advantages of a gastric band with those of a gastric bypass. It works by removing a portion of the stomach to reduce its size by around 80%. The resulting decrease in capacity leads to substantial weight loss. Results of this operation may differ from person to person and will not be the same for everyone. A Sleeve Gastrectomy (or gastric sleeve) is an operation to reduce the size of the stomach. This is achieved by stapling the stomach along its length and removing the excess portion, leaving a long tube or sleeve. Although the shape of the stomach is drastically changed, it still continues functioning normally, albeit the quantity of food consumed will be considerably less. The gastric sleeve is an excellent choice of treatment if your BMI is over 35 and you have been able to lose weight in the past but have found it impossible to maintain that loss in the long term.

Overview & Itinerary

Procedure:

Gastric sleeve surgery - Sleeve gastrectomy

Procedure time:

Compared to other weight loss surgery procedures, a sleeve gastrectomy is a relatively short and simple operation. It takes about 60 to 90 minutes. Your surgeon may still want you to stay in the hospital for one to two days afterward.

This way, they can help manage your pain and any temporary side effects of surgery, such as nausea.

Anaesthetic:

General

Location:

The Surgery takes place in Antalya Turkey in our Private Hospital located in the heart of Antalya approximately 20 mins drive from Antalya International Airport.

Total stay:

5 nights totally, 3 nights hospital stay and 2 nights in hotel accommodation.

Possible Risks:

All surgeries have some risk of complications. With sleeve gastrectomy, they occur in less than 5% of operations. Surgical complications include:

● Bleeding.

● Infection.

● Reactions to anaesthesia.

● Leaking from the staple line.

Recovery time:

You should give yourself a good month before you expect to feel quite like yourself or return to work at full capacity. During the first 1-2 weeks, many people feel fatigued or tired as their bodies work to recover while adjusting to limited calories. In the early weeks, you’ll only be able to tolerate a liquid diet. Over time,

you’ll gradually progress to a soft diet, and finally, solid foods.

Expected results:

The average weight loss is 35% to 50 % of your body weight in the first one to two years. You might lose more or less, depending on the lifestyle habits you adopt after surgery. Some people also regain some weight, but the overall average weight loss of 35% to 40% of your body weight is consistent over five

years.

Gastric Bypass

The gastric bypass is a more complicated procedure and involves the creation of a small pouch at the top of the stomach with staples. The remaining stomach stays in place. A section of the intestine is plumbed into this pouch so that the food bypasses the rest of the stomach and enters the intestine’s lower part. It is very effective for weight loss and may be the best option for diabetes and acid reflux. You can expect to lose 30 – 35% of your total body weight during treatment. We usually see an almost immediate resolution of type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure is often improved as well. This works very well for patients with BMI over 35, as well as those with type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure.

Icons Revision Surgery

Revision Surgery

Revision weight loss surgery is a surgical procedure that is performed on patients who have already undergone a weight loss procedure and have either had complications from the surgery or have not successfully achieved significant weight loss results from the initial surgery. Revision procedures are usually performed laparoscopically, though open surgery may be required sometimes if prior obesity surgery has resulted in extensive scarring. With the increase in the number of weight loss procedures performed every year, there are growing numbers of individuals who have experienced an unsatisfactory result from their procedure. If you have had previous surgery your choice of revisional surgery may be limited but certainly worth investigating.
